Biography

Michelle Wittenburg has broad based experience in all three branches of state government and is particularly knowledgeable on public policy aspects of civil and criminal justice, public utility, environmental, water, oil and gas, election, budgetary, financial, open government, gaming, and licensing issues. Michelle worked in the Texas Senate for three sessions, served as the Executive Assistant to the Comptroller, and most recently was the General Counsel to the current Speaker of the House, where she guided the Speaker's successful efforts to pass landmark tort reform, ethics, and governmental reorganization legislation. She also has significant political experience, having consulted, managed, and fundraised for legislative and statewide campaigns. Additionally, Michelle has experience with the appellate courts that handle administrative law issues, having interned for former Third Court of Appeals Justice Lee Yeakel, now a federal district judge, and Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht. She received her bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and earned her law degree cum laude from South Texas College of Law, where she was an editor of Law Review and an award-winning national Moot Court participant. Michelle currently practices law and provides governmental and political advocacy and consulting services to business clients and candidates for the Texas Legislature.
