Biography
Michael Jewell is Government Affairs Counsel in Haynes and Boone's Austin office. Michael has been involved in Texas government affairs and public policy for more than 25 years. He has served as a legislative and regulatory advocate for national and international corporations, including AT&T, Reliant Energy and Direct Energy, on matters involving the competitive electric and telecommunications markets. In his role, Michael has helped shape and advocate his clients' public policy positions with state legislators, key executive officials, and state regulatory agencies, including testifying before state legislative committees. Michael also has served on the staff of several state officials, including Governor George W. Bush.
Born in Dallas, Texas, Michael attended the University of Texas at Austin for both his undergraduate and law school education. He began his legal career in the Austin office of Fulbright & Jaworski L. L. P., where he was involved with matters relating to the regulation of the electric utility industry. He subsequently practiced law at Haynes and Boone, where he was involved with matters relating to the regulation of the electric and telecommunications industries. He returns to Haynes and Boone with invaluable experience, knowledge and contacts in the state capital. He will actively serve clients' legal and public policy interests.
Michael is active in a variety of organizations. He has actively participated in the Association of Electric Companies of Texas and the Gulf Coast Power Association. He has served as a member of the Corporate Advisory Board of the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Business. Michael is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Travis County Bar Association.
