John Fitzpatrick, Executive Director
A former school board member, chamber of commerce executive, middle school tacher and coach, John Fiztpatrick serves as the Executive Director of the Texas High School Porject (THSP) at Communities Foundatio of Texas. A unique public-private initiative, THSP is dedicated to all Texas students graduating high school college ready, career ready and life ready. Mr. Fitzpatrick serves as a board member on the Texas Public Education Reform Foundation and a defacto member of the Commission for a College Ready Texas, a group appointed by Gov. Rick Perry in April 2007 to provide leadership and guidance to the State Board of Education to improve college readiness programs by aligning high school curriculum with college standards. Before taking the helm at THSP, Mr. Fitzpatrick served as Executive Director of the Capital Area Training Foundation, now Skillpoint Alliance, a non-profit organization working to build relationships between industry, education, and communities to benefit Central Texans. Concurrently, he held the position of Vice-President for Education and Workforce Development for the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Fitzpatrick also served as a member of the Austin Independent School District Board of Trustees. He has long been involved in the educational and political arenas, including a four-year stint on Capitol Hill where he worked on education and workforce development policies for the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. He is a former English and history teacher. Mr. Fitzpatrick received a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and a master's degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.
